How To Connect Garmin Watch To Peloton

Who doesn’t want to get all fit and healthy in these times when fast food has ruined the health of more than half of the world’s population?

The fitness gadgets like Peloton bikes and Garmin watches have made this journey to a healthier lifestyle much more accessible.

However, the experience of different users with the Garmin watches isn’t the same. Though some could easily connect their Garmin watch to the peloton bikes and treadmills. But a significant number of users failed in doing so.

But there is nothing to fret over, as I have put together a guide for you containing a simple step-by-step method to connect and sync your Garmin watch to Peleton.

I will also take you through a method you can use to sync the non-compatible watch models to your Peloton bike or tread in this write-up.

Connecting & Syncing Garmin Watch to Peloton

As I mentioned earlier, many users struggle to sync their Garmin watches to Peloton. If you are also one of them, follow this step-by-step guide for performing this task without hassle.

  1. Firstly, make sure to switch to the Broadcast During Activity mode on your Garmin Watch.
  2. Now, put the watch on to sync it to your Peloton bike or tread.
  3. To get the heat rate monitor modal, take a class on the Peloton.
  4. On the Peloton bike or treadmill, head to the “Settings” tab.
  5. Select the heart rate monitor option on the screen.
  6. If the heart rate monitor comes with a Bluetooth connection, turn on the Bluetooth on your Peloton equipment.
  7. However, if the monitor is ANT+, enable ANT+ on Peloton.
  8. Once you enable the connection, your bike or treadmill will begin its search for nearby heart rate monitors.
  9. If you can’t find your Garmin Watch among the list of available devices, hit the “Refresh” button at the top. You can find the refresh icon adjacent to the “Set Your Heart Rate Monitor” option.
  10. For ANT+ models, you will see the watch as an ID. Bluetooth models, on the contrary, appear by their names, i.e., Garmin in this case.
  11. Select your watch and take a class on your Peloton bike or treadmill to see if the heart rate shows up during the class.

You have successfully connected your Garmin watch to Peloton.

Connecting Garmin Fenix 3 HR to Peloton

Now that you know of a general method to sync your Garmin Watch to a Peloton bike or tread, let me bring it to your notice that some watches can’t be connected through the above method.

The Garmin Fenix 3 HR is one such model. Being incompatible with the Peloton bike or tread, this model can’t be synced directly via a Bluetooth or ANT+ connection. Instead, you must get the Garmin Express app for syncing the Fenix 3 HR to your Peloton.

Here are the steps you need to follow for this:

  1. Go to PlayStore/App Store and download the Garmin Express app on your device.
  2. Once the app is installed, open it and hit the “Scan new devices” button.
  3. Under the “Connected Devices” section, locate your device.
  4. Tap the “Add a Device” button.
  5. From the list of compatible watch models, locate the Garmin Fenix 3 HR and tap on it.
  6. Next, hit the “Connect to my fitness tracker” option.
  7. Now, tap “Next” on the screen.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connecting process.
  9. Wait for a few seconds until both devices are finally connected.
  10. When the process completes, a pop-up message saying, “Your Garmin Fenix 3 with Heart Rate Monitor is now connected,” will appear on the screen.

Which Garmin Watch Models are Compatible with Peloton?

Like the Garmin Fenix 5 HR model, there are multiple other Garmin watches that are incompatible with Peloton. Unfortunately, not all of them can be synced with your Peloton bike or tread via the Garmin app.

But the best part is that some Garmin models can easily be synced with your Peloton without having to go through much hassle. Here is a list of the Garmin watch models that are compatible with Peloton:

  • Vivoactive 3
  • Forerunner 35
  • Vivosmart 4

Fixing the Garmin Watch Not Syncing with Peloton

Although the above method works in most cases and can help you sync your Garmin watch to Peloton, sometimes this won’t be the case. Here is a list of the possible reasons that could prevent your Garmin watch from connecting with Peloton:

  • The Garmin watch is connected to another device, i.e., the Bluetooth connection streamlines for your watch are not free.

  • There might be some problem with the Settings of the heart rate monitor of your Peloton bike or tread.

  • The distance between the Gramin watch and Peloton is not favorable, preventing the formation of the connection.

  • The battery of either the watch or the bike is not charged.

  • You might not be wearing the watch, preventing it from starting its operation.

  • The Peloton bike or tread hasn’t completed a round, inhibiting heart rate monitoring detection.

  • Your Peloton device is currently synced with some other Bluetooth device.

After going through the list of possible reasons preventing the Garmin watch from connecting with Peloton, let me take you toward the possible fixes for this problem.

  1. Restart your Garmin watch and turn off the Bluetooth connection on it. Go to the Bluetooth settings on the watch and ensure that it is not already connected to another device. If you see a prior connection, disable it.
  2. Head to the “Settings” section on your Peloton bike or tread. Tap the “Refresh” icon at the top to refresh the Settings page and bring it to the default mode.
  3. Bring both the Garmin watch and Peloton closer to each other. If you find any other device emitting signals between their pathway, remove it.
  4. Check the battery of your Garmin watch and ensure that its battery is more than half charged to secure the connection for a long time.
  5. Remove the watch from your wrist and tie it again. This time, make sure to tie it around your wrist carefully.

You can use the step-by-step methods explained above to sync your Garmin watch to Peloton and track your heart rate without much trouble. Don’t forget to seek help with the possible fixes I have listed for you when the watch fails to connect to the bike or tread.
